ITINERARY -

DAY 1 - Depart From Austin, TX - 6am

We'll board our chariot and depart Austin at 6am, headed for Lincoln County, New Mexico.  We'll arrive at Valley of Fires recreation area in time to set up camp, enjoy the sunset and have dinner around the campfire.  Valley of Fires recreation area is located immediately adjacent to the Carrizozo Malpais Lava Flow. Approximately 5,000 years ago, nearby Little Black Peak erupted and flowed 44 miles into the Tularosa Basin, filling the basin with molten rock. The resulting lava flow is four to six miles wide, 160 feet thick and covers 125 square miles.  Witness the awesome power of our planet to destroy and regenerate, as what appears to be barren rock from a distance, is actually a habitat for many plants and animals and is also a bird-watchers paradise!

DAY 6 & 7 - chaco canyon

It is said that Chaco Canyon was a sacred place ruled by a dynasty of women, where huge crowds gathered over 1,000 years ago, to exchange goods and ideas, rejoice and make music, participate in spiritual ceremonies, and observe the cosmos.  We'll start with a sunrise meditation and a delicious, nutritious breakfast and spend the day exploring the park.  There's plenty to see from the petroglyphs, to the large circular in-ground "kivas", to the massive "great houses" and roads with their mind-blowing astronomically precise architecture.  We'll tour Pueblo Bonito, Chetro Ketl, Casa Rinconada and hike backcountry trails that were used centuries ago, when this place was a flourishing mecca.
